Nespresso Vertuo Plus Overview

Nespresso machines come with two trademark systems: Original and VertuoLine.

Both lines differed from each other in five various aspects. I’ll compare Original Line and VertuoLine in detail.

1. Centrifusion Vs. Pump

The OriginalLine of coffee machine bestows a classic espresso impression by using a 19-bar high-pressure system to extract every note. Whereas, VertuoLine machines use rapid spinning technology known as centrifusion. I believe that Vertuoline machines did not inadequately extract.

2. Capsule Scanning

VertuoLine scanning technology uses barcode-enabled capsules to extract the beverage. This technology also restricts non-Nespresso capsules. However, in OrignalLine machines, you can use inexpensive third-party pods like HiLine and Gourmesso. This saves a substantial amount of your budget spent on capsules.

3. Foamy Texture

Crema, aka foam, is the hazel-colored coating that forms on top of your espresso. Centrifusion gives VertuoLine machines an airier, “whipped” crema. This makes it more prominent and aromatic, but it lacks flavor and mouthfeel. The OriginalLine machines are getting closer.

4. Capsules’ Price

OriginalLine capsules from Nespresso are less expensive than VertuoLine capsules. It varies for every capsule, but OriginalLine capsules are typically 30% less expensive.

5. Coffee Temperature

OrignalLine brews more authentic and hot espresso as compared to VertuoLine. The reduced temperature is maybe because of the centrifusion.

Of course, the OriginalLine machine has an upper hand in some of the attributes, but that doesn’t illustrate that VertuoLine isn’t valuable. The VertuoLine is perfect for those peeps who want espresso and coffee both.

Things to consider before buying Nespresso VertuoPlus

Scroll below to learn more about its characteristics.

Compact Design

Nespresso Vertuo Plus is a sleekly designed machine that can sneak anywhere in your kitchen. Its adjustable water tank can rotate, which gives your counter a personalized space. Not just that, you can customize the cup support system to up to four different sizes of mugs.

Nespresso Vertuo Plus comes in a very enticing color palette_ like gray, silver, titan, black, matt black, cherry red, and white which gives you a luxurious look.

Moreover, the location of the power cable and the cup support is adjustable to accommodate four various cup sizes.

When it comes to its manufacturing partners (Delonghi and Breville espresso machines), the design may alter significantly, but the patent technology stays the same.

Nespresso Vertuo Plus Delonghi has opted for a square shape and symmetrical dimensions.

Nespresso Vertuo Plus Breville has a dome-shaped top.

Some users didn’t like one component in VertuoPlus outlook: the used capsule container positioned at the back of the machine; you must remove the water tank to empty it. This is inconvenient; however, the magnet closing simplifies the operation.

Water Tank Capacity

The VertuoPlus has removal and adjustable 40 oz water tank. The tank is made of clear plastic and has a helpful swivel arms feature that fits according to your counter setup.

This function is quite useful because it allows you to modify the footprint and maintain your water reservoir within easy reach.

Brewing your beverage

Nespresso VertuoPlus gives you a lightning-fast heat-up mechanism in 20 seconds, better than Vertuo Next, which takes 25 seconds almost. This speed is impressive with just a single button.

The pre-programmed buttons in the Nespresso VertuoPlus brewing system can’t adjust the proper temperature and pressure for your espresso or coffee except for the water volume. Simply press and hold the volume button until it reaches the appropriate level. This coffee and espresso maker will store the info for the next brew.

However, after our testing, we find the temperature of VertuoPlus coffee is about 72.5°C, much better than the other coffee makers like the Nespresso Vertuo Next, which has a temperature of about 62.5°C.

When you need to use a larger cup, you may flip this tray up, allowing you to brew up to 17 oz of the mug.

Further, you can brew five different cup sizes depending on whatever coffee pods you select. Espresso (1.35 oz), double espresso (2.7 oz), Gran Lungo (5 oz), regular coffee (7.7 oz), and Alto (7.7 oz) are the options (14 oz). By pressing the button again at the end of a brew cycle, you can add more water.

Coffee Quality & Crema Viscosity

Due to the Hermetically sealed coffee capsules of Nespresso, it is a delicious coffee and espresso maker. On the top, the centrifusion technology also extracts every single note from the capsule, making the coffee quality exceptional.

Nespresso VertuoPlus gives you an awesome blend of flavor and silky texture crema on the top of your coffee and espresso, just like the other Nespresso coffee makers.

Aeroccino Milk Frother

Nespresso VertuoPlus doesn’t come up with an integrated frother. However, you can buy the Aeroccino 3 milk frother from the VertuoPlus bundle for specialty drinks like cappuccino or macchiato.

Capsule scanning and compatibility

VertuoPlus scanning tech will surely amaze you as it locks out 3rd-party coffee capsules. Are you wondering about its functionality? Keep in mind: that each capsule has a particular barcode that tells the machine how to brew it.

VertuoPlus reads the information on the coffee capsules and automates itself accordingly. This feature is perfect for families who have different coffee preferences.

Due to this scanning, it is not compatible with non-Nespresso capsules. You only have to use Nespresso Vertuo capsules so that your machine can brew your delicious coffee or espresso. To get to know what is the best Vertuo pod, have a look at our guide on best Nespresso pods.

Cleaning And Maintenance

Nespresso VertuoPlus’s detachable parts, including adjustable cup support, capsule container, and water tank with lid, make the cleaning more practical.

VertuoPlus water reservoir has a lid that keeps impurities out, but changing the water periodically keeps algae out.

After cleaning the water tank and emptying the capsule container, push the button three times in two seconds to initiate the cleaning cycle. During the cleaning cycle, an orange light will blink, and it almost takes 5 minutes for Nespresso VertuoPlus to automatically run the cleaning procedure.

For more info regarding Nespresso VertuoPlus cleaning, you can take help from a step-by-step guide of VertuoPlus.

To get hands-on experience for a proper descaling, make sure to read VertuoPlus manual guide, which assists you in what to do and what not. You need to give at least 20 minutes to this descaling method for good results.

Use only the Nespresso descaling kit for descaling and no other cleaning.

Our Verdict

If you want a compact yet simple machine, then yes, go for Nespresso VertuoPlus. Its 40 oz water tank limit everyday refilling it (especially if you’re living with your loved ones). Its spent capsule is 10, which is enough for you for at least 3-4 days if you’re a religious coffee lover. Also, if you want to adjust the machine on your kitchen counter, its rotating water reservoir will help you do so.

If you’re falling in the above-mentioned metric, I recommend you Nespresso VertuoPlus.
But if you want more water reservoir capacity than VertuoPlus, check out Nespresso VertuoPlus Deluxe or Nespresso Vertuo Evoluo (both have 60oz capacity). Or if you’re tired of the inadequate spent capsule capacity, then choose Evoluo as it has 17. If you want a more sleek design, look out the Vertuo Next. Moreover, if you want a more swift machine that can heat up in 15 seconds, go for Vertuo and Evoluo.
